When to come to urgent care for a prescription
Generally, it’s easy to order repeat prescriptions for existing conditions through your regular family GP. However, even if you can’t get an appointment, most GPs have online Patient Portals, which allow you to make repeat prescription requests.
But if you’re experiencing an unexpected illness outside of regular GP hours, we can help.
It’s sensible to come to Urgent Care if you have signs of an infection that needs prompt treatment.
What types of illnesses might need urgent prescriptions
Sometimes it’s okay to wait until you can see your General Practitioner to get a prescription, but if you are in pain or have symptoms of infection, it’s best to be seen promptly. Commonly we see people who need prescriptions for:
- Urinary Tract Infections
- Cellulitis
- Eye Infections
- Infected Wounds
- Ear Infections
- Thrush
- Bacterial Infections
- Emergency Contraception
- Long-term condition management
- Respiratory Illness
- Covid-19 Antivirals
Do I need to see a doctor to get a prescription?
Medicines that are not administered over the counter will need to be prescribed by a general practitioner. However, at least here we also have a fantastic Nurse Practitioner service.
Our Nurse Practitioners have special qualifications that enable them to prescribe most medications.
Luckily, we have an onsite Pharmacy that can help you fulfil prescription after hours.
