What is a Nurse-led clinic?
Sometimes it’s not necessary to see a doctor when coming to our clinic. Fortunately, we have an amazing team of nurses who can help you with all sorts of health care needs. Often you’ll be referred to a nurse led clinic for aftercare – or you might know the term “outpatient care“. This means you might need to pop back for a check-up, dressing change or test following an initial consultation.
What is a nurse practitioner?
Did you know that qualified Nurse Practitioners can provide almost all prescription medicine? This is because a Nurse Practitioner will have undergone further in-depth study to understand prescription medicines. Seeing a Nurse Practitioner is especially useful if you need a prescription for a long-term condition like diabetes or a common ailment like a UTI or Infection such as Cellulitis or an Eye infection.
Our nursing team is led by the highly experienced Nurse Practitioner Tania Farrell.
East Care has registered nurses working in a range of positions. We have Staff Nurses, Registered Nurse Prescribers and Nurse Practitioners.
Working under the guidance of a Doctor, Nurse Practitioners are able to prescribe from a large schedule of medications to treat common and long term conditions.
Nurse Practitioners have advanced education, clinical training and the demonstrated competence and legal authority to practise beyond the level of a registered nurse. This means Nurse practitioners work autonomously and provide a wide range of assessment and treatment interventions, ie:
- ordering x-rays,
- blood tests
- prescribing medicines.
At East Care our Nurse Practitioners manage the same common and complex conditions as our doctors
What type of ailments can a Nurse led clinic help with?
As always, we assess everyone who comes to our clinic carefully and then decide the treatment path.
You might go to a nurse-led clinic for:
- Ear Suctioning
- Phlebotomy – blood tests
- Wound care management, including dressing changes
- Plaster cast checks
- Aclasta Infusions for Osteoporosis
- ECG – Electrocardiogram
