Dr Wong completed his initial medical study at Otago University. He trained in cardiology at Greenlane Hospital and attained Australasian specialist qualifications in 1998 before spending 2 years in the US as a research fellow. He is Clinical Head of Cardiology at Middlemore Hospital and has consulted privately for 14 years. He is a General Cardiologist with particular interest in preventative cardiology, cardiac imaging, valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease. He is currently on the NZ Branch Executive Committee of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is the Chairman of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians NZ Specialist Advisory Committee overseeing NZ specialist training and is an Assessor for the NZ Medical Council. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology.
A family man, who’s a keen runner and sports follower, Dr Wong was attracted to cardiology for its similarities with mechanical engineering.”
